NAS Honors EMTs with Medical French Certification

The National Ambulance Service (NAS), in partnership with the French Embassy, Alliance Française, and Ashesi University, held a Medical French Certificate Award Ceremony on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Alliance Française in Accra.

The event celebrated 140 Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) from the Greater Accra Region who successfully completed a six-month Health French course aimed at improving communication with French-speaking patients during emergencies.

The initiative is designed to enhance the delivery of emergency care by equipping EMTs with essential French language skills.

Distinguished guests included Dr. Felicia Birch Freeman (Greater Accra NAS Coordinator), Mrs. Fati Masoud Salifu (Deputy Director of Training at NAS), and Dr. Daniel Asare, as well as Jules Armand Aniambossou (representative of the French Ambassador) and H.E. Assielou Felix Tanon, Côte D’Ivoire’s Ambassador to Ghana.

Delivering remarks on behalf of NAS CEO Prof. Ahmed Nuhu Zakariah, Dr. Freeman congratulated the graduates and emphasized the program’s value in improving both local emergency response and international healthcare collaboration.

EMTs expressed appreciation for the training, acknowledging the support from Ashesi University and the French Embassy in helping them deliver better care to French-speaking communities.

The ceremony highlighted the vital role language plays in strengthening healthcare systems and fostering cross-border cooperation.
