The Minority Caucus in Parliament has extended a helping hand to victims of the recent fire at the Adum Blue Light Market in Kumasi with a donation of GH¢200,000.
The amount was presented on Monday, April 14, 2025, during a brief ceremony led by Minority Leader and Effutu MP, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
Speaking to affected traders, Afenyo-Markin conveyed the caucus’ heartfelt condolences, recognizing the emotional and financial toll the incident has taken.
He called on the government to promptly release emergency funds from the national contingency reserve to further support the victims.
“The government must act with the same urgency and compassion shown in previous disasters,” he emphasized.
The blaze, which ravaged multiple shops and commercial outlets, left thousands of traders devastated, with goods worth millions of cedis destroyed.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the traders, Chairman Joseph Bobie Ansah expressed sincere appreciation to the Minority Caucus.
“This support means a lot to us. It will significantly ease the burden on our members who have lost everything,” he said.
