Ghanaian Artist Amaarae Shines at Coachella 2025

Ghanaian-American artist Amaarae made history over the weekend with a groundbreaking performance at the 2025 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, on April 13, 2025.

Coachella, one of the world’s most renowned music and arts festivals, spans two weekends each year. This year’s first weekend ran from April 11–13, with the second set to take place from April 18–20.

Amaarae became the first Ghanaian artist to perform a solo set at Coachella, delivering an electrifying performance that blended her own hits with music from fellow Ghanaian talents including Eazzy, Joey B, La Même Gang, and the Asakaa Boys. She proudly celebrated her heritage, chanting “Ghana” and encouraging the crowd to wave the Ghanaian flag, which was prominently featured on stage.

“A lot of the music you just heard is from my home country, Ghana. I love my country so much,” she told the audience, highlighting her pride in her roots.

One of the performance’s most powerful moments came when Amaarae cut off her long hair on stage, symbolizing transformation and a new beginning. She also took the opportunity to announce her upcoming album, “Black Star,” slated for release this summer.

Born Ama Serwah Genfi, Amaarae rose to fame in 2017 with her Passionfruit Summers EP. She solidified her presence in both local and global music scenes, with her 2023 hit Sad Girls Luv Money (featuring Moliy) earning Record of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards. Her Coachella debut marks a major career milestone and a proud moment for Ghanaian music on the global stage.
