Davis Ansah Opoku, the Member of Parliament for Mpraeso, has appealed to the youth in Bawku to prioritize peace in the wake of recent violence in the area.

Speaking on Metro TV on Friday, April 11, Mr. Opoku voiced serious concern over the ongoing conflict, emphasizing its damaging effect on Bawku’s development and the future of its young people.

He highlighted that the unrest has resulted in loss of lives and destruction of property, while also stalling progress in vital areas such as education and infrastructure.

“Bawku is falling behind in terms of development,” he noted, urging all parties to consider the long-term consequences of the conflict.

Using education as a key example, Mr. Opoku drew attention to the widening gap between youth in Bawku and their peers in more stable regions.

He emphasized that young people in Bawku deserve the same opportunities as those in cities like Accra, especially when it comes to taking national exams like the BECE or pursuing university education. “The kids in Bawku will take the same BECE as those in Accra. They also aspire to attend the same universities,” he stated.

Wrapping up his comments, Mr. Opoku encouraged the youth to embrace peace, stressing that it is the only path to meaningful development, access to education, and greater national participation.

He also called on traditional leaders and community elders to take an active role in breaking the cycle of violence and restoring calm to the region.
