Agbeshie Discusses Volta Region’s Growing Music Scene

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz with Andy Dosty, Ghanaian musician Agbeshie shed light on the remarkable growth of the music industry in the Volta Region—a once-overlooked part of Ghana’s entertainment scene.

According to Agbeshie, the region has long been sidelined but has gradually built a vibrant music community with its own homegrown stars. “I can confidently say that the Volta Region was neglected for a long time. But over the years, it has produced its own superstars. I’m here today because every time I come, I make it a point to promote them,” he shared.

He noted that many top-tier musicians in Ghana often overlook the Volta Region in their promotional tours, which has led locals to support and develop their own talents. “I recently went to Takoradi to promote my music because I knew there were Ewes there. But many A-list artistes don’t go to the Volta Region. So, the people said, ‘If you won’t come, we’ll support our own,’ and that’s exactly what they’ve done,” he said.

Agbeshie emphasized the strength of the region’s music culture, pointing out that Volta artistes have become so influential that even well-known musicians don’t automatically receive attention unless they’ve earned local recognition. “Just like you can’t go to the North without mentioning Fancy Gadam, it’s the same in the Volta Region. No matter how big you are elsewhere, if you haven’t been consistent there, they won’t pay attention. They’re looking out for people like Agbeshie,” he added.

Agbeshie is currently promoting his latest release, Alakpato, which features fellow artiste Chief Wan.
