A 19-year-old man narrowly escaped lynching by a group of angry youth in Assin Fosu Trafo, located in Ghana’s Central Region, over allegations of homosexuality.

According to reports from Adom News, the young man had traveled from Kasoa Opeikuma to Assin Fosu to meet a 20-year-old man he had allegedly contacted through a WhatsApp group. He is said to have proposed a sexual encounter at a local hotel.

Although the individual he intended to meet reportedly does not identify as gay, he agreed to the meeting and informed others in the community, who then organized to confront the visitor.

Upon the suspect’s arrival at the meeting location, he was ambushed and physically assaulted by the group.

During questioning, the 19-year-old admitted to being gay and said he had been introduced to it while in Senior High School. He also mentioned that financial difficulties had influenced his decision to continue engaging in same-sex relationships.

The situation was de-escalated by the timely intervention of Ibrahim Kankam Danso, the Assembly Member for the Trafo Electoral Area, who prevented further violence. Despite sustaining injuries, the young man was not killed.

Mr. Danso later contacted the suspect’s mother, and the young man was released into the care of his family. No formal complaint was filed with the police regarding the incident.
