Communications Minister Sam George Nartey has highlighted the vital role of the technology sector in Ghana’s efforts to reset and rejuvenate its economy.
Speaking at a first-quarter press briefing on April 9, the Minister described technology as a foundational element in Ghana’s ambition to become a major player in the global digital economy.
“The tech sector is essential to positioning Ghana at the forefront of a competitive digital world,” he said.
He also pointed to President John Dramani Mahama’s pre-election promise to launch the 1Million Coders initiative—a bold programme aimed at training one million young Ghanaians in digital skills.
“This initiative will give young people the tools they need to succeed in an increasingly digital global landscape,” he noted.
Sam George explained that the programme is tailored to prepare the youth for high-demand fields such as business process outsourcing and knowledge-based services.
He confirmed that the Ministry has already taken steps to roll out the 1Million Coders programme, advancing the President’s vision.
“We’ve moved quickly to bring this vision to life and ensure our youth are equipped for the future job market,” he added.
The Minister also emphasized efforts to engage development partners and secure the resources necessary for the programme’s success.
“By leveraging strategic partnerships and diplomatic channels, we’re working hard to deliver real results that will upskill our youth and prepare them for future challenges,” he concluded.
