Students from Hwidiem Senior High School (HWISEC) in the Ahafo Region recently held a protest to express their frustration over the poor state of their school’s infrastructure, which they say is negatively impacting their academic progress.

The protest involved students marching through the streets of Hwidiem to draw attention to the issues affecting their learning conditions.

Senior Boys Prefect, Sulemani Yaya, spoke with Adom News after the protest, highlighting several critical concerns.

He pointed out the poor condition of the girls’ toilet, which poses significant health risks. Yaya also expressed concerns about the boys’ dormitory, describing it as structurally unsafe and near collapse, with overcrowding forcing many students to sleep on the floor. He further raised issues with the lack of desks and chairs, which disrupt the learning environment, and questioned the use of Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) funds, claiming students have not seen any real benefits from the money collected over the years.

Asutifi South District Chief Executive (DCE) nominee, Mr. Asabre Donkor, acknowledged the students’ concerns as valid.

He praised the swift actions of key stakeholders, including traditional leaders, police, and officials from the Ghana Education Service (GES), for preventing damage to school property during the protest. Donkor assured the students that efforts would be made to address the infrastructure issues to improve the school environment and ensure better teaching and learning conditions.
