Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State for Government Communications, has reiterated the government’s stance that public funds will not be used for the construction of the controversial National Cathedral.
Speaking on the matter, Kwakye Ofosu emphasized that President John Dramani Mahama remains firmly committed to this position. “The president has made it clear that we will not use public funds to continue the project,” he stated.
From his personal perspective, the Minister expressed: “I believe there is no need for a national cathedral. If religious organizations, such as churches, wish to build one and request land from the government, and if they can generate their own resources, that’s fine. But I don’t believe public funds should be allocated to the construction of a national cathedral.”
Kwakye Ofosu emphasized that this stance has been consistently supported by President Mahama, making it clear that no taxpayer money would be used for the project. “What’s certain is that President Mahama will not invest GHS400 million of taxpayers’ money into that project,” he concluded.
