Gospel musician Empress Gifty has opened up about her personal experience with divorce and the emotional pain it brings.
In a video shared on Instagram on April 1, 2025, she described divorce as a “nightmare” and one of the most painful experiences a person can face.
She explained how the emotional scars of a divorce can affect future relationships, especially when the new partner is younger. “You can’t imagine the trauma one goes through during a divorce. It feels like you’re starting from scratch,” she shared. “It becomes even more challenging if you end up with a younger man, as your family might disrespect him and your friends may mock him, making things difficult for both of you.”
Empress Gifty also stressed that marrying an older man offers a sense of security. Reflecting on her own marriage, she mentioned how she feels safe and confident with her current husband, particularly in public. “When the man is older, you feel secure. With my husband, I feel at ease because if anyone crosses a line, I know he’s there to defend me,” she explained.
