Traders at Tema Community 1 Market are assessing their losses after a fire swept through the area, completely destroying eight shops.
The blaze broke out early Thursday morning behind ABSA Bank, prompting an immediate response from the Tema Regional Fire Service. Firefighters were joined by teams from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Ghana Police Service, who helped isolate power sources and ensure security at the scene.
Despite heavy smoke making it challenging to fight the flames, the fire was eventually brought under control with the use of two fire pumps. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
While eight shops were completely destroyed, more than 100 others were spared. Authorities are currently conducting a thorough review to prevent the fire from spreading further and to fully contain it.
