In May 2025, Ghana, Jamaica, Nigeria, and Trinidad and Tobago will gather in London to compete for the coveted Unity Trophy.
Dubbed “The Best in the West – the Afro Clasico Contest,” the event will showcase two thrilling semi-finals featuring intense regional rivalries.
The first semi-final, scheduled for Tuesday, May 27, will mark the historic TriniJam clash on UK soil. Trinidad and Tobago’s Soca Warriors will face Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz to settle who reigns supreme in the West Indies.
The following day, May 28, will see Nigeria’s Super Eagles battle the Black Stars of Ghana to claim supremacy in West Africa.
The competition will culminate on Saturday, May 31, with a double-header, including a match to determine the third-place finisher, followed by the highly anticipated final, where one team will lift the Unity Cup 2025.
Two-time Unity Cup champions Nigeria are likely to enter the tournament as favorites, given their FIFA ranking and recent form. However, history shows that their rivalry with Ghana always adds an unpredictable edge, especially as Ghana returns to London, where they previously stunned the Super Eagles with a dominant 4-1 victory.
Jamaica will also come to the tournament eager for redemption, having narrowly lost by a single goal in the past.
Speaking ahead of the event, Rotimi Pedro, organizer and founder of AfroSport, expressed his excitement: “I am thrilled to announce that The Unity Cup is returning. Reviving this important community event has been a long journey, and we’re delighted that fans of African and Caribbean football will experience top-tier international competition at The Unity Cup 2025.”
Co-Director of AfroSport, Andy Howes, added, “The Unity Cup is more than just a football tournament. It’s an event that transcends sport. With world-class talent and the high-profile teams involved, this tournament highlights not only the cultural significance of African and Caribbean football but also the growing commercial influence of these communities within English football, and the increasing number of black football fans in the UK.”
