The Bank of Ghana’s Summary of Economic and Financial Data for March 2025 reports that the value of mobile money transactions in Ghana dropped to GHC 316 billion in February 2025, a decrease from GHC 333 billion in January.
This is also lower than the GHC 334.8 billion recorded in December 2024.
Throughout the previous year, mobile money transactions had generally been on a steady rise.
Similarly, the number of transactions fell to 698 million in February 2025, compared to 726 million in January, following a peak of 745 million in December 2024. However, compared to the same period last year, the number of transactions has significantly increased, rising from 609 million in February 2024 to 698 million in February 2025.
With the recent removal of the 1% electronic money levy on mobile money transactions, industry experts expect a positive shift in the sector in the months ahead.
