American rapper and philanthropist Ja Rule has returned to Ghana, reaffirming his dedication to education ahead of the unveiling of a six-unit classroom block at Nuaso Anglican Primary School in the Eastern Region.
The project, launched in collaboration with the non-profit Pencils of Promise (PoP) last year, aims to improve educational conditions for local students.
Before the commissioning, Ja Rule took a private tour of the National Museum of Ghana, reflecting on the importance of the project and his growing bond with the country. He expressed, “Education is something I’m really passionate about. Beyond classrooms, I want to build more facilities, including a gymnasium and other extracurricular spaces that will enhance learning for these kids.”
Ja Rule, who has visited Ghana several times, praised the country’s role in shaping African identity globally. During the museum tour, he was deeply moved by the history of slavery, calling the experience heartbreaking and emphasizing the importance of remembering the past while working toward a better future.
On his music career, Ja Rule hinted at a potential Afrobeats collaboration, recognizing the genre’s global rise. He mentioned, “I actually did something with a Ghanaian artist over 15 years ago. Afrobeats is huge now, and it’s taking over the world. Maybe I’ll hop on it.”
He also encouraged fellow artists to use their platforms for social good, saying, “We have a platform, and it’s important to use it to create real impact.”
Leslie Engle, CEO of Pencils of Promise, shared her excitement about the project, noting its transformative effect on the community. “This is more than just a school building—it’s an investment in the future. We are focused on expanding education for young girls and have many more projects lined up globally,” she added.
