Two individuals have died after an illegal mining pit collapsed at Mpasatia Yaw Nkwantah in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region on Tuesday morning.
Rescue operations are ongoing, with others believed to be trapped in the pit.
The identities of the deceased and those trapped remain unknown.

Community members, with the help of police and security forces, recovered the bodies of the deceased, and efforts continue to rescue those still trapped. According to locals, the mining concession belongs to an individual who had authorized mining without proper supervision.
Nana Nkansah, a local resident, explained to Joy News that the miners had dug deep into the pit, weakening the surface, which led to the collapse.
He also highlighted that the miners in the area use simple tools to dig deep pits.
The bodies of the deceased have been taken to the morgue, awaiting family identification.
This marks the second time a collapse has occurred in this same illegal mining pit.
Despite efforts by the Ashanti Regional Security Council to combat illegal mining, the practice continues to be a problem in many parts of the Ashanti Region.
