Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia made a generous donation of over 3,300 bags of rice across the country this past weekend to assist disadvantaged Muslims in preparation for Eid ul-Fitr.
His thoughtful gesture spanned all 16 regions, with regional representatives tasked with identifying individuals in greatest need of support.
Eid ul-Fitr, a celebration marking the conclusion of the month-long fast during Ramadan, is traditionally a time of feasting and charity, where Muslims are encouraged to help one another so that no one is left without food on this joyous occasion.
Dr. Bawumia’s timely contribution came as a welcome relief to many families who might have struggled to afford essentials like rice for the celebration.
In total, 3,320 bags of rice were distributed, with the Ashanti Region—home to a large Muslim population—receiving the largest share of 480 bags. Greater Accra and Eastern regions followed with 350 and 340 bags, respectively.
Additionally, Dr. Bawumia extended his support to the broader Muslim community by presenting bags of rice to the National Chief Imam for distribution to those in need.
