ORAL team is to help fight corruption, not witch-hunt anyone – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated that the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative is solely focused on combating corruption and promoting accountability in public office, rather than unfairly targeting individuals.

During a courtesy call on the Ghana Bar Association on Wednesday, Mahama stressed that ORAL serves as an organized platform for whistleblowers to report cases of corruption, backed by proper investigative procedures.

“Corruption and accountability in public office are among our most pressing challenges. Sadly, it has become common for individuals to misappropriate public funds or dip into the public purse,” he remarked.

He pointed out that corruption was one of the top five concerns for Ghanaians during the last campaign, making it essential for his administration to take strong action on the issue.

Mahama explained that ORAL was created to provide a direct reporting channel for whistleblowers, including a hotline that received over 2,000 calls. While some allegations were unfounded, many credible cases were forwarded to the Attorney General for further investigation.

Refuting claims that ORAL is a tool for political persecution, Mahama reassured that its primary goal is to enhance Ghana’s anti-corruption framework.

“I want to make it clear—this is not an instrument for witch-hunting. It is an essential mechanism to support the fight against corruption,” he emphasized.
