- Brigadier General Glover Ashong Annan introduced as new Commissioner
The Acting Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, informed Joy Business that the authority will begin efforts to remove the electronic levy and betting tax from the tax compliance system as soon as the President gives the official directive.
Sarpong emphasized that the GRA is committed to following the law and will act in accordance with Parliament’s decision to eliminate these taxes.
Speaking to Joy Business after introducing the new Commissioner of Customs, Brigadier General Glover Ashong Annan, to the officials at the Tema Sector Command, Sarpong said, “Once the law has been passed, we will remove the taxes for the benefit of Ghanaians. The President has already indicated his intention to do so, and the Minister has presented this in Parliament.”
He added, “Both the E-levy and the betting tax have been abolished, alongside other taxes introduced by the Minister on behalf of the President.”
Sarpong assured that the GRA will swiftly implement the removal of these taxes from the compliance scheme, allowing Ghanaians to benefit from the change.
During the ceremony to welcome Brigadier General Glover Ashong Annan, the outgoing Commissioner, Brigadier General Ziblim Ayorongo, urged officials to fully support the new Commissioner in fulfilling the President’s mandate.
In turn, Brigadier General Annan expressed his commitment to continuing the policies of his predecessor and working toward meeting the revenue target.
