Frank Annoh-Dompreh Criticizes Government for Lack of Funding in Fight Against Illegal Mining

Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has criticized the government for merely paying lip service to the fight against illegal mining, as Parliament approves 1.8 billion cedis for the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources. While discussing the budget estimates for the ministry, Annoh-Dompreh questioned why the government claims to be serious about tackling illegal mining but has not allocated specific funds for this cause.

He called for an urgent discussion to ensure the necessary resources are provided to the Lands Ministry to combat illegal mining effectively.

“The real issue here is galamsey; we cannot ignore it. I am disturbed. I reviewed the 19-page report, and there is no specific mention of galamsey. Why?” he remarked. He expressed disappointment that the budget for the entire year did not include a clear allocation to address illegal mining.
