Finance Minister Bans Non-Essential Conference Trips

The Minister for Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced changes to the way his staff attends international conferences.

He has implemented a ban on what he describes as “free non-essential conference trips” for employees at the Ministry.

This move, he explained, is part of the government’s broader efforts to reduce unnecessary spending across various sectors.

“Leading by example, I have made it clear to my staff that the days of free, non-essential conference travel are over. From now on, delegation sizes will be reduced—three officials will be expected to achieve the work previously done by ten,” he stated.

Forson emphasized that while the size of delegations will be trimmed, productivity and efficiency will not be compromised.

This policy is part of broader budget cuts, including those affecting the Office of the President, reflecting the government’s commitment to responsible resource management.

He also noted that the goal is to ensure every cedi is spent wisely, focusing on projects that promote growth and improve the lives of Ghanaians.

This announcement was made during a meeting with World Bank Division Director Robert Taliercio O’Brien and his team.
