Lawyers for Kwabena Adu Boahene, the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), and his wife, Angela Adjei-Boateng, have submitted a bail application to the Accra High Court.
The couple is currently detained at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and faces allegations of diverting GH¢39.46 million intended for a state cyber-defense software project into their personal accounts.
Samuel Atta Akyea, the former Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, who is representing the couple, filed the bail request on Tuesday, March 25, 2025. This follows an initial police inquiry bail set at GH¢120 million for Mr. Boahene, while his wife was granted bail of GH¢80 million, both with conditions they have been unable to meet.
Mr. Atta Akyea criticized the bail conditions imposed by the Attorney-General and EOCO, calling them “onerous” and claiming they were designed to keep his clients in detention beyond the constitutional 48-hour limit.
“The respondents have intentionally imposed burdensome and unreasonable conditions to incarcerate the applicants beyond the 48-hour period stipulated by the constitution,” the application stated.
Additionally, the lawyer accused EOCO Deputy Executive Director Raymond Archer of denying his attempts to communicate with authorities on behalf of his clients.
The High Court is set to hear the bail application on Friday, March 28, 2025.
