Greater Accra Minister Restores 126 Streetlights for Better Security

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Akweley Ocloo, has revealed that around 126 streetlights have been restored across the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies in the region.

This follows her earlier commitment to ensure that at least 70 percent of streetlights in the region were operational within 50 days of taking office, a move she says reflects the government’s dedication to enhancing visibility and security in the capital.

She highlighted several areas that have benefited from the restoration, including the George Walker Bush Highway, ACP to Pokuase, Independence Avenue (near Jubilee House), and the New Town junction to Ashaiman road.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, March 25, during an inspection, Ocloo shared plans to quickly address the remaining non-functional streetlights. “Today, March 25, marks exactly 50 days since I assumed office, and I am happy to report that substantial progress has been made. A total of 126 streetlights, including those along highways, town roads, and community roads across the 29 MMDAs, have been repaired,” she stated.

She also noted that the Tema Motorway and the Accra-Tema Beach Road, which are areas of great concern to the public, have not been lit due to ongoing construction work.
