Mustapha Ussif, the former Minister of Youth and Sports, has praised the Nana Akufo-Addo-led government for its significant efforts in establishing astroturfs nationwide. He highlighted the importance of these facilities in nurturing grassroots football development.
While speaking in Parliament, Ussif emphasized the value of these sports facilities and expressed hope for their increased use now that the ministry’s mandate has expanded to include recreation.
Ussif commended the vision of the previous administration, noting that the country had only two astroturfs before Nana Akufo-Addo’s tenure, but after eight years, the number has grown to over 200.
He also welcomed President John Dramani Mahama’s recent decision to incorporate recreation into the sports ministry’s responsibilities, recognizing the crucial role existing infrastructure will play in promoting recreational activities.
“I’m pleased that John Dramani Mahama has added recreation to the sports ministry,” Ussif said. “With these astroturfs spread across our constituencies and districts, they will greatly contribute to recreational activities in the region.”
The former minister’s comments underscored the growing significance of sports infrastructure in promoting both competitive sports and recreational activities throughout Ghana.
