Iconic Ghanaian music producer Jeff Quaye, widely known as Jay Q, reminisced about the incredible support he received from influential figures at the beginning of his music career.
During an appearance on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z on March 22, 2025, the Bottle Breaker hitmaker shared how sports broadcaster Randy Abbey played a pivotal role in his journey.

“In 2003, after I won my award, we went to a club called Warehouse in Adabraka. While there, I was informed that someone wanted to speak with me. It turned out to be Randy Abbey. He said, ‘As a Ga, I truly appreciate everything you’re doing for our music,’” Jay Q recalled.
He further mentioned that Randy Abbey went above and beyond by offering his full support and any help needed to grow his music career. Jay Q acknowledged that although many Ga creatives face challenges in finding support, there are important individuals who have helped elevate their talents. He specifically highlighted the impact of music producer David Affotey Laryea, also known as Apor, for his contributions to not only Ga artists but creatives from all backgrounds.
During the same show, broadcaster and gospel music supporter OB Nartey urged well-resourced members of the Ga community to invest in rising Ga talents.
The discussion, hosted by Kwame Dadzie, was part of Joy FM’s Ghana Month celebration, which focused on the Ga people’s contributions to the creative industry. Two weeks prior, Showbiz A-Z had organized a durbar at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, celebrating the history, customs, and traditions of the Ga people.
