Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has reaffirmed the government’s dedication to fulfilling the conditions of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program and successfully completing Ghana’s debt restructuring process.
In a meeting with German Ambassador to Ghana, Daniel Krull, Dr. Forson acknowledged that Ghana had missed certain structural targets under the IMF program in the past but reassured that actions are being taken to address these shortcomings.
“We have implemented tangible measures to rectify the structural targets missed by the previous administration, and the outcomes will soon be visible,” he said.
Regarding Ghana’s ongoing debt restructuring, Dr. Forson emphasized the notable progress made and highlighted that the focus is now on finalizing bilateral agreements with external creditors.
He urged Germany’s support in speeding up the process, stressing the importance of securing these agreements for Ghana’s economic recovery. Ambassador Krull praised the government’s efforts, calling the discussions insightful. He also reiterated Germany’s willingness to move forward with signing the necessary bilateral agreements to bolster Ghana’s financial stability. Ghana’s partnership with the IMF is part of broader initiatives to restore macroeconomic stability and ensure long-term growth. The government remains hopeful that the ongoing reforms and international backing will help steer the country toward a more robust economic future.
