The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has emphasized the critical need for the Ghana Police Service to set up a specialized 24-hour policing unit to support the government’s 24-hour economy initiative.
He explained that providing security and stability for industries, businesses, and organizations that operate around the clock is essential for the successful execution of the policy. During a meeting with the leadership of the Ghana Police Service, Mr. Mubarak highlighted the vital role law enforcement plays in ensuring the initiative’s success.
He pointed out that businesses adopting the 24-hour economy model will need strong security measures to safeguard their operations, employees, and assets.
Without proper security, he cautioned, the effectiveness of the initiative could be at risk.
“The goal of this Secretariat is to develop a robust and sustainable policing strategy that guarantees security in both urban and rural areas. Activities don’t stop, and neither should our vigilance,” he stated.
“We are creating a system that is flexible and responsive to the specific challenges posed by the 24-hour economy. As we move forward, the safety of businesses, workers, and citizens will be prioritized to ensure every hour of the day is secure,” he added.
The 24-hour economy initiative is a strategic policy aimed at boosting economic productivity by encouraging businesses to operate beyond traditional working hours.
The policy is expected to increase employment, generate more revenue, and enhance service delivery across various sectors.
It focuses on industries such as manufacturing, transportation, retail, healthcare, hospitality, and financial services, which stand to benefit from continuous operations.
