Juventus have parted ways with manager Thiago Motta after just nine months and appointed Croatian Igor Tudor as his replacement.

Motta, 42, leaves with the club sitting one point outside the Champions League qualification spots in fifth place. His last game in charge ended in a 3-0 loss to Fiorentina, following a 4-0 home defeat to Atalanta the week before.

The Turin-based club also suffered a defeat to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League play-offs and were eliminated from the Coppa Italia, which they had won the previous season. Tudor, a former midfielder for Juventus, made over 150 appearances for the club between 1998 and 2007.

Tudor’s managerial career began with Hajduk Split in 2013, and he has since managed teams including Galatasaray, Udinese, Verona, and Marseille. His most recent role was a brief stint at Lazio at the end of last season.

The 46-year-old will manage his first match for Juventus at home against Genoa in Serie A on Saturday.
