Chief One Claims to Be the First Artist to Introduce Amapiano to Ghana

Ghanaian artist Chief One has boldly stated that he was the first to introduce the Amapiano genre to Ghana.

In an interview with Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz, Chief One claimed, “I’m the first artist to drop Amapiano in Ghana. I started it long ago, and though I entered the genre later, people know me for Amapiano because I’m the first to bring it here.”

He recalled releasing his first Amapiano track on August 17, 2021, and challenged anyone to dispute his claim. “Check anywhere, August 17, 2021. No artist in Ghana did it before me,” he said, speaking in Pidgin English.

Refuting rumors that producer Appietus may have been the first to incorporate Amapiano in 5Five’s “Mujebaya,” Chief One argued, “I checked, and I didn’t feel any Amapiano in it. I’m still the one who brought it here.” He further emphasized that his unique blend of the genre, with the Ewe ‘Kinka’ sound, sets his Amapiano apart.

“Mujebaya isn’t Amapiano. If you analyze it, the elements are different. Even the shaker is unique. My Amapiano sound is a fusion of my style,” he said.

Chief One has also dropped a new track titled “Megbe” (I decline).
