The individuals involved in the killing of cattle belonging to the Fulani community in Sabonjida, located in the Nanumba North Municipality of the Northern Region, have been brought before the court.
The suspects face charges of firearm possession without legal justification under Section 11 of the Arms and Ammunition Act, 1972 (NRCD 9), as well as animal cruelty under Section 303 (1a) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). The arrests followed violent attacks on Wednesday, March 19, when residents of Sabonjida and Afayili launched an assault, killing livestock and setting fire to huts belonging to the Fulani community.
The violence is believed to have been sparked by allegations of armed robbery, which led to the death of one person.
