Kwabena Adu Boahene, the former Director General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), was detained on Thursday at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) upon his return from London Heathrow on a British Airways flight.

Mr. Boahene was apprehended at 8:30 a.m. in a coordinated operation involving the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), led by Deputy Director Raymond Archer, alongside officials from the Attorney-General’s Department.

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Majority Leader and Effutu MP, confirmed the arrest on Facebook, revealing that Mr. Boahene was informed he was on EOCO’s Stop List and was wanted by authorities.

Afenyo-Markin explained that while waiting in the VIP lounge for his luggage, Mr. Boahene was told by immigration officers there was an issue with his name, which needed to be addressed at the main office in Terminal 3. Deputy Director Raymond Archer and his team then handcuffed Mr. Boahene at the departure area and escorted him through the Departure Hall with about six officers.

Afenyo-Markin further stated that Mr. Boahene was placed into a white Nissan Navara pickup, with registration number GN 8850-22, accompanied by armed officers. Another Navara pickup and a white Toyota Corolla also followed the convoy. At approximately 9:47 p.m., he was taken to an undisclosed location.

The NSB, an agency under the National Security Council, is tasked with providing secure signal systems for national security and intelligence agencies.

This incident comes on the heels of a raid at the home of former Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor Dr. Ernest Addison on Wednesday morning, which has sparked widespread outrage. Reports suggest that 15 soldiers, armed with rifles, forcibly entered Dr. Addison’s home. The operation, led by Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations, allegedly involved disabling the CCTV system and demanding Dr. Addison’s help in locating “vaults” within the property, which they subsequently ransacked.
