NPA Vows Strong Action Against Illegal Fuel Trading

- Fuel smuggling and selling adulterated fuel are major concerns
- Tameklo calls on ministers to avoid backing dishonest traders
- Bono Regional Minister offers full support to NPA efforts
The Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Kudzo Tameklo Esq., has vowed to take a strong stance against individuals or groups involved in illegal fuel trading.
He emphasized that the Authority would strictly enforce its mandate to ensure the lawful transportation and sale of fuel.
During a meeting with the Bono Regional Security Council (REGSEC) as part of his familiarization tour of the region, Mr. Tameklo listed illegal activities such as fuel smuggling, selling adulterated fuel, operating with expired licenses, and failing to meet safety standards.
He urged regional ministers nationwide to refrain from intervening on behalf of dishonest fuel traders.
He pointed out that some individuals may attempt to use political influence to pressure NPA officials into participating in illegal actions, a practice he stated would not be tolerated.
“We must support President Mahama’s economic reset agenda for growth and prosperity for all. If you defend these criminals who disregard the rules, who will you turn to when you buy poor-quality fuel?” he remarked. The NPA CEO added that collaborative efforts with National Security and other agencies have significantly reduced fuel supply issues like export dumping.
Bono Regional Minister Joseph Addae Akwaboah assured the NPA of full support from the regional security council.
“We are committed to supporting the NPA and will work together to prevent future illegal activities,” the Regional Minister affirmed.
The meeting with the Bono REGSEC was part of a three-day tour by the NPA Chief Executive to the Bono and Ashanti regions to visit petroleum facilities.
On Wednesday, the NPA team made their first stop at the Bono Regional Coordinating Council and paid a courtesy call on the Omanhene of Sunyani to seek his support in addressing fuel supply and export challenges in the region.
