Agbodza Seeks AfDB Support for Key Road Infrastructure Projects

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has met with the African Development Bank (AfDB) to secure financing for major road projects in Ghana.

The discussions, held yesterday, aimed to enhance collaboration for improving the country’s road infrastructure.

Several key projects were discussed, including the Eastern Corridor Development Programme Phases 1 and 2, the Dambai Bridge Project, and the Abidjan-Lagos Corridor Road Project. The government’s Big Push Initiative, the reintroduction of road tolls, and road maintenance strategies were also addressed.

Mr. Agbodza requested financial backing for the reconstruction of the Techiman-Wa road, a vital trade and transport route in the northern region.

He expressed gratitude for the AfDB’s ongoing support and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to securing sustainable funding for road infrastructure. He also highlighted that the reintroduction of road tolls would significantly help generate funds for road projects.

AfDB Country Manager Eyerusalem Fasika reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s infrastructure development, emphasizing the critical role of well-maintained roads in fostering economic growth and regional trade.

This meeting marks a significant step in strengthening Ghana’s partnership with the AfDB, with both parties hopeful for tangible outcomes to enhance road connectivity and economic opportunities.
