Cholera Outbreak in Central Region 3,028 Cases and 19 Deaths

The Central Regional Health Directorate has reported an increase in suspected cholera cases, now at 3,028, with 260 confirmed infections.

During the Annual Health Sector Performance Review in Cape Coast on Wednesday, Agnes Achiamaa Anane, Regional Director of Health Services, revealed that the outbreak has resulted in 19 deaths, and four healthcare workers were also affected in late 2024.

Ms. Anane acknowledged the pressure the outbreak has placed on healthcare resources but reassured the public that the directorate is enhancing surveillance systems to curb further spread.

She stressed the need for ongoing investment in healthcare infrastructure to effectively handle future outbreaks.
