Ashanti Region Set to Become a Major Power Generation Hub

- Ashanti will soon generate 700 megawatts of power
- The Minister promised more stable power for the region
- A new transformer was installed to improve power delivery
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has revealed that the Ashanti Region will soon become a major hub for power generation, with key energy projects expected to generate about 700 megawatts of electricity upon completion.
During his visit to the region to assess power supply issues, the Minister toured important facilities, including the Ameri Power Plant, Cenit, and ASKSA Energy Plants at the Awomaso Bulk Power Supply area.
Commitment to Stable Power Supply
In a statement to the press, Jinapor assured residents that efforts are ongoing to stabilize the power supply in the region.
“The supply has been stable, and we’ve been able to export some excess power. However, more work is needed. Generating power is just one part of the process; we also need to focus on evacuating, transmitting, and distributing it. We are working tirelessly to address these challenges and ensure a reliable power supply,” he explained.
GRIDCo’s New Transformer Installation
The Minister also praised the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) for the successful installation of a new transformer, which he said will greatly improve power delivery.
“I commend GRIDCo for completing this new transformer, which will significantly enhance power delivery. The recent challenges were due to switching from one transformer to another, but I assure the people of Kumasi that the issue has been resolved, and we expect a much more reliable power supply,” he stated.
With these advancements, the government aims to strengthen the Ashanti Region’s contribution to the nation’s power generation and distribution efforts.
