Arsenal are preparing to begin formal negotiations with Bukayo Saka regarding a new contract as the forward approaches the final two years of his current agreement.

Saka has been sidelined since December due to a severe hamstring injury sustained during a win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, which ultimately required surgery. Despite this setback, his value to Mikel Arteta’s squad remains undeniable, and the club is set to open discussions with the player’s representatives about an extension.

Arsenal aim to eliminate any uncertainty about their star player’s future and are prioritizing securing Saka on a long-term deal. The 23-year-old England international signed his current contract, reportedly worth at least £10 million per year, in 2022. However, his current deal is set to expire at the end of the 2026-27 season, prompting the club to take early steps toward initiating formal talks. It’s expected that negotiations will intensify soon.

Given Saka’s status as one of Europe’s top attacking talents, clubs across the continent will be closely monitoring the situation. Prior to signing his current contract, Saka had attracted interest from Manchester City, and should talks with Arsenal not progress smoothly, there will likely be no shortage of suitors.

Arsenal are hopeful that an agreement can be reached, especially with their growing status as title contenders under Arteta. Additionally, their continued participation in the Champions League could be a key factor in convincing Saka to stay.

For now, Saka is focused on regaining full fitness after his hamstring surgery. Following Sunday’s win over Chelsea, Arteta stated that Saka has a good chance of returning after the international break. Arsenal’s next match is against Fulham at the Emirates Stadium on April 1st.

Saka is not the only Arsenal player whose contract is entering its final two years or less.
