Fire Destroys Dormitories at Labone Senior High School

A devastating fire engulfed three girls’ dormitories at Labone Senior High School in Accra on Sunday afternoon, causing significant damage to the school’s property.

The blaze broke out while students were in their afternoon prep sessions, affecting three of the school’s six dormitories. One dormitory was completely destroyed, while two others suffered partial damage.

Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded quickly, managing to contain the fire and prevent further destruction.

Ado Alex King Nartey, the Public Relations Officer for the GNFS, explained that they were alerted to the fire and dispatched a team to the scene at exactly 1 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered that the fire had started in the new girls’ dormitory building. Three dormitories on the top floor were affected, with one completely destroyed and the other two partially damaged.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined, but investigations are currently underway to identify the source of the blaze.

Thankfully, no one was injured. The displaced students have been temporarily housed in the school’s assembly hall.

“By God’s grace, all the students are safe and accounted for,” Nartey added.
