Strategies to Achieve GH₵220 Billion Revenue Target by 2025

- Thereza Potarkey asks for more resources at Tema Port
- GRA aims to beat the GH₵220 billion revenue target for 2025
Leaders and officials at the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) have started creating a detailed plan to improve tax compliance and expand the tax base in order to surpass the GH₵220 billion revenue goal set for 2025.
Acting Commissioner-General of the GRA, Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, explained that the initiative’s goal is to increase domestic revenue collection to help fund government spending.
While touring major tax centers and Customs collection points, Mr. Sarpong encouraged officials to aim for at least GH₵11 billion per month, which would represent roughly 5% of the yearly target.
“Based on your performance last year, I expect you to reach a minimum of GH₵11 billion, which makes up about 5% of our target of GH₵220 billion,” he told GRA staff.
“I am confident that you will meet this target. Our role is also to ensure you receive the necessary logistics and support to focus on your work with ease,” he added. During his visit to the Tema Port Collection point, Sector Commander Assistant Commissioner Thereza Potarkey assured Mr. Sarpong that they are working hard to exceed the revenue target. However, she requested more resources to improve operations.
“Since Tema Collection is responsible for nearly all Customs revenue, I must kindly point out that the Collection needs additional resources. I won’t overwhelm you with all our challenges, but there are a few issues affecting our operations,” she explained. One of the key concerns she raised was the lack of infrastructure.
“Our current working conditions need improvement to create a better environment for both our staff and the public. Enhancing these conditions will not only improve our efficiency but also enhance the experience for our clients,” she added.
The visit allowed Mr. Sarpong to interact with tax officers and discuss ways to achieve the GH₵220 billion revenue goal. The team also visited the MPS Port Services management, where they raised key concerns that require government attention.
