New Passport Centers To be Opened Across Ghana

Story Highlights
  • Passport centers will be in all 16 regions of Ghana
  • This will make it easier to get a passport without going to Accra
  • Changes include 24-hour service, faster processing, and delivery by courier

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has revealed plans to set up passport application centers in all 16 regions of Ghana.

This initiative aims to reduce the pressure on the current facility in Accra, which has been overwhelmed by a high volume of applications and long processing times.

Ablakwa shared the news while addressing Parliament on Thursday, March 12, emphasizing that spreading out passport services across regions will make it easier for Ghanaians to access them without having to travel to Accra. “Our aim is to make obtaining a passport more convenient for all citizens by setting up regional application centers,” he said.

He also mentioned that ongoing reforms, including 24-hour operations, faster processing times, and courier services for passport delivery, will improve efficiency once the regional centers are running.

At present, the Accra passport application center is handling a large number of applications, causing delays and overcrowding.
