Dr. George Akuffo Dampare and His Work in Ghana’s Police

Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the former Inspector General of Police (IGP), has expressed heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to serve Ghana following his recent dismissal from office.

In a statement released on March 14, 2025, Dr. Dampare thanked God and the people of Ghana for their prayers, support, and blessings throughout his time in office.

He acknowledged the outpouring of love and encouragement from well-wishers both within Ghana and abroad, especially over the past 24 hours.

Dr. Dampare also expressed his gratitude to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for appointing him as IGP, a position that made him the youngest to hold such a title in the Fourth Republic. He further thanked President John Dramani Mahama for the positive working relationship they shared during their brief time together.

The former IGP also appreciated the prayers, advice, and guidance from religious and traditional leaders, as well as the cooperation and support from heads of other security agencies. He thanked civil society organizations for their constructive feedback and encouragement.

Additionally, he expressed gratitude to the international community and diplomatic missions for their support, engagement, and valuable feedback during his tenure.

Reflecting on his 35-year career with the Ghana Police Service, Dr. Dampare expressed his pride in rising from a General Constable to becoming the youngest Commissioner of Police and IGP in the Fourth Republic.

He thanked the Police Management Board (POMAB) and all police officers for their dedication and wished them well.

Dr. Dampare reaffirmed his deep commitment to Ghana, stating that at nearly 55 years old, he remains energetic, disciplined, and dedicated to serving his country with honor and integrity.
