Rising rapper Kweku Flick has expressed his gratitude to award-winning rapper Sarkodie for believing in him and giving him the chance to showcase his talent.
In December last year, Kweku Flick gained widespread attention for his impressive rap delivery on Sarkodie’s track “Messiah.” He credits Sarkodie for making this opportunity possible and is thankful for it.
Speaking about his relationship with Sarkodie, Kweku Flick, whose real name is Andy Osei Sarfo, shared that he had admired the legendary rapper long before entering the music scene. “Sarkodie has always been someone I look up to. Even before I started making music, I was a fan of his, and he inspires me a lot—not just in music but in his lifestyle. We got closer when I learned that he’s good friends with my uncle,” he told Graphic Showbiz in an interview.
“He treats me like we’ve known each other for years, and I respect and appreciate him a lot. One thing I’ve learned from him is how conscious he is about himself and how serious he is when it comes to music and work,” he added. Kweku Flick also shared that Sarkodie’s musical style has greatly inspired his own work, with songs like “No Sleeping,” “High,” and “Black Stars” reflecting his lyrical skills and dedication to his craft. He recently released “Yaayi,” a Drill single aimed at keeping the Asaaka music wave alive. He confirmed that the Asaaka movement is still strong in Kumasi.
His previous Drill hits, like “New Year” and “Bye Bye,” played a key role in bringing the Asaaka genre into the mainstream, and he continues to contribute to its growth.
“Everything you saw about that vibe some time ago is still going on. The vibe is still there, but everyone is doing their own thing now, which is why people may not see it as before. Everyone is working, and things are going well for me,” he said.
Though Kweku Flick’s style is often compared to Kwesi Arthur’s, some critics accuse him of copying the “Grind Day” hitmaker. However, he denied this, emphasizing his close relationship with Kwesi Arthur.
“Kwesi is one of the first people to show me love in my music journey, and I now see him as a brother. Many people think we’re not cool, but we are, and I love him very much,” Kweku Flick shared.
“He recently did something for me that I didn’t expect, and that made me love him even more. He knows what I’m talking about,” he added.
