Van Dijk Uncertain About Liverpool Future

- Van Dijk unsure about his future at Liverpool beyond this season
- Ongoing talks but uncertainty after Champions League defeat
- Full focus on Premier League, no updates on contract
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has revealed that he has “no idea” if he will remain at Anfield beyond the current season.
The Dutch defender is one of three key players, alongside Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contracts expire in June.
While discussions between Liverpool and Van Dijk have been ongoing for some time, the 33-year-old has previously expressed interest in extending his stay at the club. However, following Liverpool’s Champions League loss to Paris St-Germain in a penalty shootout, Van Dijk admitted that uncertainty remains regarding his future.
“I genuinely have no idea at the moment,” Van Dijk said. “I don’t even know what will happen next year. If anyone claims they do, they’re lying to you. There have been some talks behind the scenes, but that’s all.”
Liverpool currently sit 15 points clear at the top of the Premier League, are preparing for the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle on Sunday, and had been pushing for success in Europe before their recent defeat to PSG.
When asked if discussions about his future had been put on hold to focus on the team’s performance, Van Dijk clarified, “It’s not on hold. Nothing’s on hold. There are 10 games left in the Premier League, and that’s where my full attention is. If there’s any news, you’ll hear it from me—I don’t even know it myself.”
