Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has denied any wrongdoing regarding the corruption-related investigations being conducted by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

In defense of his time as Finance Minister, Ofori-Atta emphasized that his actions had always been in the best interests of Ghana.

In an open letter dated February 26, he reaffirmed his commitment to integrity and transparency throughout his 40-year career.

“As you are aware, I have operated with honesty and openness in both my personal and professional life for the past four decades.

“As the longest-serving Finance Minister in this country (2017-2024), during some of the most significant crises of our time, I have consistently acted with the best interests of Ghana and Africa in mind, and will continue to do so,” parts of the letter read.

Expressing frustration over recent statements from Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, Ofori-Atta said he was “puzzled and dismayed” by the situation.

“I have recently found myself in the news in a rather dramatic way. I felt it was necessary to clarify the facts surrounding recent events and media reports regarding me and the Special Prosecutor. I am as confused and disheartened by these developments as I believe you may be,” he wrote.

The former minister explained that he was out of the country for medical reasons when the Special Prosecutor summoned him for a meeting.

“I was abroad on January 24 for medical reasons when the Special Prosecutor invited me for an in-person meeting on February 10, 2025, in relation to four ‘corruption and corruption-related cases.’

“I was not the initiating or implementing minister in any of these cases. I immediately instructed my lawyers to inform him that I was willing to have them provide any necessary information for the investigation, given that I would be out of the country for the next few months due to medical reasons,” he added.

The OSP’s investigation into Ofori-Atta covers several financial matters, including the Strategic Mobilization-GRA contract, the termination of the ECG-BXC contract, payments related to the National Cathedral, ambulance procurement, and the use of the Tax Refund Account.

Meanwhile, Ofori-Atta, who is seeking a swift resolution to the matter, continues to assert that he was neither the originating nor implementing minister in any of the cases under investigation.
