Prominent football administrator Abdul Salam Yakubu has called on the Black Stars’ coaching staff to bring Andre Ayew back into the fold ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Ayew has not featured for the Black Stars since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), having been left out following Otto Addo’s reappointment as head coach in March 2024. Despite this, the experienced forward has been in excellent form for Le Havre in the French Ligue 1 this season.

The 34-year-old has scored four goals in 17 appearances, demonstrating his ongoing ability at the highest level.

With Ghana set to regroup later this month for important 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar, New Edubiase United owner Abdul Salam Yakubu believes Ayew’s leadership and experience would be a major asset to the team.

“I believe Andre Ayew should be given another chance with the Black Stars,” he said on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.

“We all know his dedication to the Black Stars, and we’re aware that even if he doesn’t score, he’ll provide assists. So, I’m convinced that we need him, and he should be called up again,” he added.

The Black Stars are currently second in Group I with nine points. They will face Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, at 19:00 GMT, before traveling to Morocco to take on Madagascar at the Grand Stade d’Al Hoceima on Monday, March 24.
