I’d Rather Establish a Music School Over Managing an Artiste – Tiwa Savage

Story Highlights
  • Tiwa Savage explains why she doesn't sign emerging artists
  • Aspiration to create an educational platform for musicians rather than managing them
  • Social media makes artist management more challenging

Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has opened up about why she prefers not to sign emerging artists, explaining that managing musicians comes with significant stress and responsibility.

In a recent conversation with Forbes Africa, the “Water and Garri” singer revealed that, despite frequent requests for her to sign young talent, she doesn’t feel equipped to mentor or manage other artists.

Tiwa explained that managing artists demands immense patience and dedication, qualities she believes she lacks, given the unpredictable nature of the industry.

She added that in today’s social media-driven world, handling artists becomes even more challenging, as their actions can quickly go viral for the wrong reasons. Tiwa humorously mentioned that she could be sound asleep, only to wake up and discover that one of her artists is trending for negative reasons.

Instead of running a record label, the 45-year-old artist shared that her focus is on establishing a music school where aspiring musicians can hone their skills before being signed by record labels that are better suited to manage their careers.
