Interior Minister Extends Curfew in Bawku Municipality and Surrounding Areas

The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, has announced the extension of the curfew in Bawku Municipality and its surrounding areas following recommendations from the Upper East Regional Security Council.

The renewed curfew, which takes effect from Monday, March 3, 2025, will continue to run from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. The curfew will be subject to review or renewal after one week, depending on the prevailing security situation.

In addition to the curfew extension, the Minister reiterated the ban on the carrying of offensive weapons, arms, or ammunition within the affected areas. He issued a stern warning to the public, stating, “Anyone found violating this directive will face arrest and prosecution.”

Bawku has been under a curfew since November 2021 due to ongoing chieftaincy conflicts, which have resulted in numerous casualties over the past years.
