Amasaman Court Grants GH¢50,000 Bail to Farmer Over Alleged Threats

- Farmer granted GH¢50,000 bail
- Wife faces charges for damaging car
- Bench warrant for father's arrest
The Amasaman Circuit Court has granted GH¢50,000 bail with two sureties to a 28-year-old farmer, Ali Baba Maigah, who is accused of threatening to harm a businessman and his employees.
Maigah reportedly attempted to force Sadat Osmanu, a tenant, to vacate his father’s store. The confrontation stemmed from an alleged incident in which Osmanu’s father, Issaka Maiga, defrauded Osmanu of GH¢30,000 under the pretense of renting him a store.
In addition to Ali Baba, his wife, Brahina Yakubu, is facing charges for allegedly damaging the complainant’s car windscreen, valued at GH¢1,850. Brahina is currently at large.
Presiding Judge Enid Marful-Sau has ordered Ali Baba to return to court on April 2, 2025, for the Case Management Conference. A bench warrant has also been issued for the arrest of both his father, Issaka, and his wife.
Presenting the facts of the case, Police Chief Inspector Frederick Ansah-Awuah explained that the complainant, a businessman, sought to rent a store and was introduced to Issaka Maiga, 62, by an imam named Mallam Mutala. After paying GH¢30,000 for a five-year rental agreement, the complainant discovered that the store had already been occupied by an unknown individual. Despite repeated attempts, Issaka refused to take the complainant’s calls.
Undeterred, the complainant began renovations on an adjacent store. However, Ali Baba allegedly confronted the workers, seized their tools, and threatened to harm them if they returned.
On November 11, 2024, the complainant filed a formal complaint with the Amasaman Divisional Criminal Investigations Department (CID). Police attempts to contact Issaka for questioning were unsuccessful.
The following day, when the complainant and his workers returned to continue their renovations, Ali Baba allegedly attacked them again. He was arrested, but while being transported in the complainant’s Ford vehicle to the police station, his wife, Brahina, allegedly hurled insults at the officers and threw a stone, damaging the car’s front windscreen.
In his caution statement, Ali Baba admitted to preventing the complainant from working in the store.
On November 18, 2024, police learned that Issaka had been arrested in a separate case at Nsakina, a suburb of Accra. After further investigations, both Ali Baba and Issaka were charged, but Issaka has yet to appear in court. Police are still actively searching for Brahina to assist with their investigations.
