  • Ghana seeks crucial win in Group I after disappointing 2024 campaign

Ghana’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Madagascar has been relocated to Morocco, with the match now scheduled for Monday, March 24, 2025.

The match, which was initially set to take place in Antananarivo, Madagascar, has been moved to a neutral venue due to Madagascar’s national stadium failing to receive the necessary approval. The Grand Stade d’Al Hoceima in Morocco will now host this crucial Group I encounter.

This fixture comes just three days after Ghana’s match against Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on March 21, 2025, marking the Black Stars’ first match of the international window.

After a disappointing 2024 campaign, where Ghana won only two matches and failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in 20 years, the team is eager to begin 2025 on a positive note. Currently, the Black Stars are tied at the top of Group I with Comoros, both on nine points after four matches. Ghana’s victories in the qualifiers so far have come against Madagascar, Mali, and the Central African Republic, with their only loss recorded against Comoros.

Ghana has previously participated in four World Cup tournaments, Germany 2006, South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014, and Qatar 2022, and is determined to secure a place at the 2026 edition, which will be co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
