Applications Open for 2025 BBC News Komla Dumor Award

The BBC has announced the opening of applications for the 10th annual BBC News Komla Dumor Award, which seeks to uncover and promote fresh talent in African journalism.
The award, which honors the legacy of renowned Ghanaian broadcaster Komla Dumor, is open to journalists from across Africa. The winner will spend three months at the BBC headquarters in London, gaining skills and experience.
Applications close on March 20, 2025, at 23:59 GMT. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to travel to a country in Africa to report on a story they have researched, with the report broadcast to the BBC’s global audiences.
Komla Dumor’s widow, Kwansema Dumor, expressed her pride in her husband’s impact at the BBC and thanked the corporation for remembering him through the award.
The BBC is committed to continuing Dumor’s legacy by empowering African journalists to tell original and nuanced stories to international audiences. Past winners of the award have included journalists from Kenya, Ghana, Zambia, Uganda, and Nigeria.

Dumor was a distinguished broadcaster who presented Focus on Africa, the BBC’s first-ever dedicated daily TV news program in English for African audiences. He was also a lead presenter for BBC World News’ European morning segment.
