  • He allegedly misappropriated GH¢111,591 from Auto Avenue Enterprise
  • Hlo granted GH¢300,000 bail with three sureties

Samuel Kwasi Hlo, a salesman accused of misappropriating GH¢111,591 from Auto Avenue Enterprise, appeared before the Dansoman Circuit Court to face charges of theft.

Hlo, who is also accused of stealing auto parts worth GH¢144,313 from the company, has pleaded not guilty to two counts of stealing.

The court, presided over by Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit, granted Hlo bail set at GH¢300,000 with three sureties. Two of the sureties must be public servants earning at least GH¢5,000, while one must provide immovable property as collateral, supported by title deeds. All sureties are required to reside within the court’s jurisdiction. Additionally, Hlo was ordered to deposit his Ghana Card at the court registry and report to the court once a week.

The case was adjourned to March 7, 2025, after the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Kwadwo Aboagye, was directed to file disclosures and witness statements.

In his testimony, Chief Inspector Aboagye informed the court that the complainant, Makella Amevenu, is the Managing Director of Auto Avenue Enterprise, which deals in auto parts at the Dansoman Exhibition Roundabout. Hlo had been employed as a salesman at the company for seven years.

In 2023, Hlo reportedly brought his son to work at the company without the consent of management. This led to a dispute between Hlo and the company’s driver, which ultimately resulted in his suspension.

Following the suspension, management conducted an audit of the company’s records between January 4, 2021, and October 3, 2023. The audit revealed that auto parts valued at GH¢111,591 issued to Hlo were unaccounted for, while GH¢144,313 in customer payments he had received were also missing.

On February 9, 2024, Hlo was arrested and handed over to the Dansoman Police for investigation. He was granted police bail to facilitate the reconciliation of the accounts with the company. However, Hlo allegedly absconded after realizing the extent of his financial misconduct during the audit process.

A forfeiture order was issued to Hlo’s surety, who was tasked with producing him. On February 6, 2025, the surety surrendered Hlo to the investigator, leading to his arraignment in court.
