Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie, has expressed his commitment to helping the Black Stars secure a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Following Ghana’s disappointing failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in two decades, the national team is now focusing its efforts on the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, set to resume next month.

The Black Stars are scheduled to face Chad and Madagascar in Matchday five and six of the qualifiers. With recent back-to-back victories bolstering the team’s qualification hopes, Afriyie has stepped forward, offering his full support to ensure Ghana qualifies for the global tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

“I am ready to support the Black Stars to qualify for the 2026 World Cup,” Afriyie stated in an interview with Sporty FM.

He further revealed his discussions with the Vice Chairman of the Black Stars, Stephen Appiah, on strategies to improve the team’s chances. “I have spoken to the Vice Chairman (Stephen Appiah) on what he has to do, but whatever I have to do to ensure the Black Stars qualify for the World Cup, I am ready to do that and I am in for that,” he added.
